We are winners again in 2018! This year we were awarded the coveted Priefert Cattle Chute for bringing in the largest number of new members in a single year. We are now the largest single chapter in Georgia with over 200 members! Thank you to all who helped make it happen.
The Polk County Cattlemen walked to the podium six times at the Annual Georgia Cattlemen’s Convention 2016 to accept statewide awards. Two, for membership, recognized their continued growth from 37 members less than a decade ago to over 160 now. More importantly, they have retained members with interesting speakers at educational programs, field days for hands-on learning, community involvement and encouraging youth participation. These activities led to their award as the Large Chapter of the Year. Three individuals in the Polk County Cattlemen Association were also honored. Jeff Hawkins won Agriculture Teacher of the Year for his tireless efforts inspiring future leaders at Rockmart High School to continue working in the number one industry of Polk County with output of over $280.7 million in 2016 [1]. William Nutt, of JanBil Farms in Cedartown, was awarded the coveted Producer of the Year trophy for his herd of registered Red Angus and Simmental cattle. His focus has always been on developing excellent genetics, superior animal health and educating the public in the value of beef. Finally, junior member, Ashlyn Breanna Bates from Cedartown, was awarded a scholarship from the Wax Company for her continued studies at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton. Congratulations to the members and leadership of the Polk County Cattlemen’s Association. [1] “2018 Ag Snapshots”, The University of Georgia Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development, 2017. |
